I’m Player

Research and UX/UI for an MVP app for football players

Context

At the outset, there was an idea for a mobile product for football players, but it was not yet clear what the first MVP should include. We needed to study players’ needs, define the product scope and design an interface ready to hand off for development.

We assumed that football players manage training, nutrition, recovery, physical condition and planning across different places. The research confirmed this. Players find training sessions and nutrition advice online, while tasks and metrics are recorded in notes, spreadsheets or together with a coach. I’M Player was intended to bring all of this into one product and help players plan their development and track progress.

What we did

  • Conducted user research and mapped the product’s key scenarios.
  • Structured the MVP around the player’s core processes.
  • Created prototypes, tested them with players and refined the structure based on the results.
  • Then designed the app’s UX/UI, built a design system and prepared the layouts for development handoff.

Outcome

The client received 40+ screens, a design system and the MVP’s key scenarios, ready to hand off for development.

Research, CJM and I’m Player prototypes

Research and prototypes

During interviews with players, we built a CJM and separately examined the coach’s role in a player’s development. We found that some data and decisions went through the coach, so we considered a dedicated coach–player link within the app. We decided not to include it in the first MVP and leave it for the next stage.

The prototypes were tested with football players. We checked whether the structure was clear, how users completed the main scenarios and where unnecessary actions appeared. The product logic was refined based on the test results.

Player profile in I’m Player

Home and profile

The home screen was designed to provide quick access to the main features. A dedicated PRO players section makes their experience and materials immediately visible. The profile serves as the player’s personal space, bringing together their data, training sessions and achievements.

Training

Training is built around two scenarios. In the first, the player chooses their position and gets exercises tailored to its match demands. In the second, they choose a professional footballer, view their exercises and save relevant ones. Each card immediately shows the goal, duration, number of exercises and difficulty, while the workout view shows completion progress.

Nutrition section in I’m Player

Nutrition

The section brings together ready-made meal plans, dishes, recommendations, search and filters. A player can view the day’s meal plan, open a specific dish, save it or add it to their schedule.

Player health and metrics screens

Health and metrics

A section was designed for regular condition monitoring. It includes sleep, weight, BMI, muscle condition and wellbeing metrics that can be tracked over time.

I’m Player training calendar and planning

Planning

The planning section brought together a journal, calendar and tasks. Players can schedule a training session, meal, note or task for a specific date and time, with repeats, notifications, descriptions and media attachments.

Design system and project handoff

By the end of the project, a design system had been assembled and the Figma layouts structured. The final materials were handed over to the client as a single foundation for future work and product development.
